The form takes about five minutes: what your vet said, what was quoted, and what you want my opinion on. Plain language is fine; it is my job to translate, not yours.
I reply by email, usually the same day, confirming I can genuinely help and quoting a fixed fee, from $250 depending on complexity. If it is not a case for me, I say so and point you somewhere better.
My reply includes a secure way to send records, imaging and the quote, and a payment link. Nothing is charged before you have seen the fee and decided.
Records, imaging, the quote, your questions. If something essential is missing I ask for it rather than guessing around it. Urgent cases, IVDD especially, go to the front of the queue.
A plain language document answering your questions with the reasoning shown, yours to keep and to hand to your treating vet. If questions remain after you read it, you can come back to me on it.
You should never make a four figure surgical decision on a single opinion delivered in a fifteen minute consult. This is the calm, independent, written second look that decision deserves.
Scope and fee usually come back the same day. The opinion itself depends on the case and what I am juggling, but decision critical cases are prioritised, and if your surgery is booked for Friday, tell me and I will treat it accordingly.
Whatever you have. Ideal is the clinical notes, any x-rays or scans as files, and the written quote. Your clinic must provide these on request. If gathering them is hard, send the case first and I will tell you exactly what to ask your clinic for.
The written opinion is the product because it forces precision and gives you something to keep and show your vet. Where a conversation would genuinely help after you have read it, we can arrange one.
